TOTAL PLAN FOR EVALUATION

 

The Total Plan for Evaluation has been developed by the School of Nursing to assess the quality and effectiveness of its programs. It demonstrates our commitment to excellence and provides evidence of quality improvement.

 

Expected results reflect the following documents:

·      Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Criteria for Accreditation (1998)

·      Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Standards for Accreditation of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Education Programs (2003)

·      Georgia Board of Nursing (GBON) Rules and Regulations (2004)

 

In addition to the University of West Georgia (UWG), College of Arts and Sciences (COAS), and School of Nursing (DON) evidentiary sources identified in the plan, the following professional documents and publications from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), American Nurses Association (ANA), and American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) are utilized:

Data are collected from the SON community of interest - students, alumni, and regional health care agencies – as follows:

·      Student Evaluations of Instruction are completed every semester.

·      Student advisory meetings are held every spring.

·      Community advisory meetings are held every other spring (even years in Carrollton/odd years in Dalton/Rome).

·      Students complete exit surveys at the end of their final semester of nursing coursework.

·      Alumni surveys are completed one year and three years post-graduation.

·      Employers of alumni are asked to evaluate performance one year post-graduation.

 

In addition to the evidentiary sources included in the Total Plan for Evaluation Data, internal and external evaluators will review:

   ·      SON standing committee and undergraduate/graduate/departmental faculty meeting minutes.

6.     All DON faculty members:

6.2   Hold a minimum of a master’s degree in nursing and maintain expertise in their teaching area.

6.3   Hold current licensure as a professional registered nurse in Georgia.

6.7     Are sufficient in number to maintain a ratio of 1 full-time faculty member for each 20 BSN students.

6.8   Are sufficient in number to maintain a ratio of 1 faculty member for no more than 10 BSN students engaged in clinical learning activities.

6.9   Maintain a workload that is congruent with UWG, COAS, and DON standards and supports faculty roles and expectations.
