Teaching Philosophy:

I believe that nurses are privileged to be with others as they experience the many joys and traumas of life.  Nurses have the opportunity to facilitate healing in others by sharing themselves and connecting with the client and family.  I emphasize self-care in my teaching because of the demands of our profession and my belief that nurses can only assist others after caring for self.  Self- awareness and spiritual growth are necessary for nurses to treat the client within a holistic philosophy that honors the interrelationship of mind, body, and spirit.  Holism recognizes the global connection of persons and the role of the individual within the environment in maintaining health.  I express my personal spirituality by practicing Christianity.  I strive to create an atmosphere of acceptance and support in which students can be exposed to new ideas, yet also share their individual opinions and learn to think critically.  I cherish learning from the students’ experiences and the enrichment they bring to my life.
