Teaching Philosophy:
My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that learning is a dynamic process where the student’s and instructor’s level of awareness about a topic or subject is heightened. It is my goal and purpose in life to reach learners at their teachable moment in the learning process. This is the time or place in which they become curious and open to the discovery of new knowledge and ways of knowing.
When actively participating in the teaching and learning environment, I have to be aware of learning processes & activities that hinder learning (i.e. learning disability or learning style needs) and those that facilitate learning (i.e. instant feedback and positive reinforcement). As an educator I must be willing to address these factors in order to cultivate the transformation to higher thought and personal growth. This process is called know to nursing as caring, which is the ability to be compassionate or showing concern for others. Focusing on the “whole” person when they are participating in the learning process is my way of caring.
To be a nurse educator is to care about the profession by giving back highly qualified nurses who truly care about their practice. To sum it all up, “All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
