Film Research Resources

General Information:
Websites for basic film information such as company information, release dates, character names, etc., for lists of review articles, and for general direction for scholarly research. None of these websites are considered scholarly sources and should not be depended upon for support for your argument:

Film Reviews:
Particularly for recent films, databases like Lexis-Nexis, Wilson Omnifile, ABI/INFORM, and Proquest can locate film reviews and often provide full text articles. These databases can be accessed through the Ingram Library website: http://www.westga.edu/~library/databases/. Additionally, the library catalogue lists over 30 books under the subject heading "Motion Pictures Reviews," and these might provide information, particularly for older films.

Scholarly Articles
:

While the databases above, particularly ABI/INFORM and Proquest which can be searched through GALILEO on the library website, can sometimes provide scholarly articles on film, the two main resources for such articles are the MLA Database, which must be accessed at school or with a network password if you are off-campus, and the Film Literature Index. The FLI is not the most complete of databases, but you should try a search there.

Film Books and Collections:
Although Ingram Library is not enormous, the University System of Georiga is and you should utilize the GIL Universal Catalogue as much as possible, in addition to InterLibraryLoan (ILL) for articles. When searching for film books, you must remember that the Library of Congress subject heading for film is still "Motion Pictures." You might browse though the subject headings to see if your topic is covered.
