Letty Ekhaml Awarded
Chapter's
Distinguished Service Award

     At the PDK Awards Banquet in May, President-elect Bob Hilliard, noted that the recipient of "this year's recognition for Distinguished Service has set the 'gold' standard for that award.                         
     Leticia (Letty) Ekhaml, (
pictured at right) has held every office in PDK.  She was an outstanding President, and represented us well as a Delegate to PDK International, but will be forever remembered as the Newsletter Editor who set a new standard for PDK Newsletters.  Her Newsletters received National recognition and the format she established, continues to receive awards.  No one has shown more dedication to a professional organization or contributed so much to its growth as Letty."

ter also presented Pyramid Awards to  Malcomb Flannagan for Leadership, Dave Carr for Service, and John Myers for Research.
     Kent Woerner received the Administrator of the Year Professional Award, Marilyn Teat was recognized with the Innovative Teacher of the Year Award, and Tammy Bingham received the Teacher of the Year Award.
     Student Pyramid Awards were handed out to Carolyn  Towns for Leadership, Emma Long for Service, and Jason Doughty for Research.
     Melissa Jordan of Central High School  in  Carrollton and Jennifer Ross of Douglas County  High  School  were  selected to receive West Georgia PDK's  High School Scholarship. Awards.

With the clock ticking down toward the new millennium, I've chosen the theme for this year as:  Remembering the past and Celebrating the future.  Hopefully, the theme will establish our vision for the West Georgia Chapter in 1998 -99.
     While the West Georgia Chapter was not officially recognized until October 1977 by Phi Delta Kappa International, the chapter was begun and had Wilton Key as its first President in 1994-95.  In recognition of twenty-five years of activity, we invite each of you to remember the past and celebrate the future as we begin a year with an ambitious agenda
