As determined at the end of last semester our officers for the Philo Society are Brian Larkin as President, Christina Swim as Vice President, Nicole Walker (me) as secretary, and Heidi Fae as Treasurer. The first meeting was a preliminary one discussing usual business. Some topics for the semester will be God, Ambiguity, Capitol Punishment, Ethics, Just War Theory, Subjectivist Ethics, Kant versus Utilitarianism, Free Will vs Determinism.

We also inquired if anyone would be interested in a group trivia night at one of the local restaurants (note: we do not endorse underage drinking). Let us know what you think. A big topic for the past meetings and this one has been fundraising for such things as Guest Lectures and T-shirts. We have tossed around the idea of a Bake Sale scheduled for February 13th and a yard sale where you can get rid of junk and we can make money. Another idea is community contributions like another canned food drive or a group day at the hospital or the soup kitchen. Dr. Donahoe has sent to the listserv information on the Meeting of the Minds and asks everyone to submit. Also keep in mind entries for the undergrad conferences coming up in Vanderbilt and Kennesaw respectively. Deadline Information should be available on the web site. The Department of Student Activities is offering a course on leadership. If you are interested contact Brian.

We also discussed having another movie night and are looking for ideas. Brian has asked if anyone has graphic or slogan ideas for the T-shirts to have them ready by the next meeting. This meeting will be held, next Wednesday the 28th of January at 3:30pm in room 211 of Humanities. Our topic is the morality of Pornography.

Thanks
Nicole
