The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) will offer Physics Teaching Resource Agents (PTRA) workshop training on physics content and teaching techniques at the University of West Georgia. The Georgia Math Science Partnership (MSP) funded PTRA program is a proven concept for middle school and high school teachers.
Target schools for the 2008 workshop are the West Georgia RESA area. Applications from teachers at schools outside that region will be accepted if the teachers from the target schools do not fill up the workshop.
The workshops are led by two nationally trained physics high school teachers, and the workshops are for teachers from west Georgia. Participants inthe one-week summer whorkshop and the two Friday-Saturday follow-up sessions during the academic year will receive:
• Stipend of $1,000 payable as $500 after the summer workshop, and $250 after each of the two
follow-up sessions
• Travel expenses
• Make & Take materials
• Payment of a substitute for two the Fridays of the follow-up sessions
• 4 PLUs if requested. (Graduate credit could be arranged.)
The schedule for the 2009 summer’s workshop is the study of Electricity and Magnetism using CASTLE (Capacitors-Assisted Teaching and Learning Electricity). This workshop material is designed to meet local and state standards.
An application form is available online here. Please note that a registration fee of $40 must accompany this registration form. If an applicant is accepted, this fee will not be refunded. The funds will be used to provide lunch and refreshments during the workshop and follow-up sessions.
