Dr. Benjamin
DeMayo, Professor of Physics, has been at West Georgia since
1971, except for one year when he was a Visiting Professor of
Physics at the Georgia Institute of Technology. DeMayo came
to West Georgia from the University of Illinois, where he was
a Research Associate in the Department of Mining and Metallurgy.
He received his B.S. from Emory University (1962), his M.S.
from Yale University (1964), and his Ph.D. from Georgia Tech
(1969), all in Physics. De Mayo's main research interests lie
in the fields of Mossbauer spectroscopy and superconductivity.
He is currently investigating ancient Native American pottery
and high temperature superconductors. He is also setting up
an advanced test and measurement lab for use by local manufacturers.
In addition, DeMayo is the coordinator of the Ingram Scholars,
which consists of those sophomores, juniors and seniors with
a GPA of 3.75 or higher.

Dr. Javier
E. Hasbun is a Professor of physics. He holds an undergraduate
physics degree from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts
(1982). His Master (1984) and Ph.D. (1987) degrees are from
the University of New York at Albany. His specialty is theoretical
Solid State Physics, and he conducts research in semiconducting
alloy systems. Advanced physics students and students who are
interested in performing experimental or practical theoretical
work are welcome to work with Dr. Hasbun on his research.

Dr.
George Keller
Physics
Faculty
|
| |
Dr. George E. Keller received his Ph. D. in physics (1969) from Louisiana State University. His doctoral research field was precision b-ray and t-ray spectroscopy. His dissertation is entitled "Band Mixing Effects in the Even-Even Deformed Neclei: 154Gd, 160Dy, and 168Er." Dr. Keller came to West Georgia as an assistant professor in the fall of 1969 and was promoted to Associate Professor in the fall of 1975. He has taught nearly every physics course in the catalog during the past 25 years. He prides himself in being able to communicate with students and on being accessible to them. He has served as advisor to the Physics Club for all but three of the past 16 years. As president of the local scientific Sigma Xi Club for 1993-95, Dr. Keller became active in sponsoring undergraduate student research on a variety of topics encountered in the undergraduate curriculum. The use of Hall effect probes to monitor magnetic fields and the thermodynamic properties of industrial gases are current topics of his interest.
During the Fall of 2003, a student in XIDS 2001 (The Physical Universe), a course that is team taught by the physics faculty, made a cartoon of George. It has such a good resemblance of George that it is posted here.
