SU class of 2004

 

I joined Phi Sigma Pi as a freshman at Syracuse University primarily because my best friend from home, Andrew Berman, then a junior at SU, was a brother.  He had been "preparing" me to rush Phi Sig since before I got to school.  I attended an informational with a few friends from my dorm floor and was hooked. 

 

My experiences with the fraternity, centered on Beta Epsilon chapter at Syracuse, are varied.  Over my three years as an undergrad brother, I held various committee chair and e-board positions, including VP and Parliamentarian.  I loved being in a leadership position and making a difference to our brotherhood.  My favorite project was revamping our chapter bylaws, which may have in some way inspired me to end up in my current position as a media circulation auditor (we love bylaws here). As an alumna, I have served on the Constitution and Chapter Standards committee on the national level.  I have also attended three Grand Chapter conferences - two as an undergrad and one as a peanut (if you were at GC outside Pittsburg last year you may recall Andrew and I "marrying" on the debate floor).  Grand Chapter opened my eyes to the national scope of the fraternity and I have never looked at it the same since.

 

As much fun as administrative duties are, the biggest influence Phi Sig had on my life, particularly as an undergrad, was introducing me to the greatest group of people I've ever had the privilege to know.  I don't think there's any particular quality that can be used to generalize my brothers in order to pinpoint what makes them exceptional - but I think that's a good thing.  I have known and come to love so many outstanding, intelligent, and FUN people through Phi Sig that I cannot imagine how my life would be if I had not joined.

 

Incidentally, I might never have met a certain fiance of mine if not for Phi Sigma Pi.  My dear Dan happens to be Mr. Andrew Berman's little!
