TEACH FOR AMERICA

In Order to Help support not only the community, but also the nation and its members, Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity helps to support Teach For America.  Founded in1989 by Wendy Kopp, Teach For America was established to battle the educational inequities that children in low-income homes and communities face across the nation.  Since then, Teach For America has impacted the lives of over 2 million students in the country, with Corp Members working two year commitments.

Their are over 3,500 corp members who teach in over 1,000 schools.  These schools are in  one of the 22 regions that Teach For America serves.  These Regions include:

Atlanta

Baltimore

Bay Area

Charlotte

Chicago

Eastern North Carolina

Greater New Orleans

Houston

Las Vegas

Los Angeles

Miami Dade

Mississippi Delta

New Jersey

New Mexico

New York City

Philadelphia

Phoenix

Rio Grande Valley

South Dakota

South Louisiana

St. Louis

Washington D.C.

With Teach For America, Phi Sigma Pi has the unique opportunity to help serve not only the community and those directly effected educational inequalities, but also the opportunity to better both Phi Sigma Pi brothers and the Nation as a whole.  In supporting Teach For America, we all have the opportunity to help better beleaguered school systems and help forward the education of children who otherwise may have never had the chance.  We can not only better these students in this support, but better ourselves in the process.  Through the knowledge of how things are and how things could be, we are presented with an opportunity to actually make a difference in the lives of others.
