The Doctoral Program and Its Invitation to Others

We invite applicants whose deep engagement with the world and the question of transformation leads them to desire further reflection and enrichment. We ask students to wrestle with the question of transformation and its personal stakes, invoking the idea of reflexivity and self-awareness, in a range of settings, from organizational settings to educational and community settings. Those who wish to gain new standpoints and qualitative research skills,  new perspectives as  psychologists who can help empower and understand humans in their networks of relationships, and feel that a broader notion of the human must be brought to bear on health, organizational and social questions, will find a home for research and reflection in this program.

We invite applicants with strong theoretical backgrounds who wish to engage the question of praxis. We invite those interested in integrative traditions,  from those inspired by William James to those following the works of Thomas Merton, Rumi, Emmanuel Levinas,  Bernard Lonergan, Jacques Lacan, Maurice Merleau -Ponty, Martin Heidegger, feminist psychologies, transpersonal,  humanistic,  discursive , and critical traditions. We seek to learn from and teach those who wish to understand psychological research and action from a broader contextual and more integral approach.

We invite applicants to join us in blending alternative perspectives into a new pluralistic vision. Bringing together the deep commitments and methodological traditions founded in humanistic psychology, we take seriously the contributions of those who would integrate the psychological and spiritual, the mind and the body, and the social and the subjective. This is a program that wants to challenge the binaries that plague psychology through a rigorous dialectic of practice and reflection. If this is part of your passion, you will be interested in our program.
