During the 2008 Spring semester Nakisha conducted a research study looking at the efficacy of meditation on the reduction of anxiety. This study consisted of three experimental groups representing three different kinds of meditations (Mindfulness, Compassion and Transcendental). Participants completed a six week meditation practice, during which time they periodically recorded their EEG and Heart rate Coherence, completed several anxiety measures, and recorded daily self reports of anxiety in journals. Nakisha trained several undergraduates as assistants to the research who learned to work with the equipment and who will present the research at competitive conferences this Fall. Nakisha is currently looking for undergraduates to assist in the continuation of the study for fall semester. If you are interested in getting research experience please contact her at the neuroscience research lab (678 839 0619).
