Course Description:
Emphasizes the mastery of attending, responding,
action and termination strategies necessary to assist client’s progress
through the stages of counseling. Focuses on the counseling skills which
facilitate client self-understanding, client goal-setting and client actions.
Same as Cepd 6161.
Course Objectives:
· mastery of the attending and responding
skills learned in the basic methods course
· mastery of the counseling skills
involved in assisting clients to develop new perspectives and increasing
understanding
· mastery of the counseling skills
involved in helping clients to develop goals/preferred scenarios
· mastery of the counseling skills
involved in helping clients formulate strategies and plans of action
· mastery of counseling skills involved
in the termination of counseling services
· ability to accurately critique audio
and video tapes of one’s own and other’s counseling sessions
· flexibility and openness in various
activities in receiving feedback from fellow students and instructor designed
to improve counseling skills
· mastery of interviewing skills needed
to assess the dysfunctional patterns and emerging themes of clients
· sensitivity to the legal-ethical
implications of counseling practices with diverse populations
