PSYC 6390 - Psychological Suffering & Disorders

 
Course Description:

An introduction to those milder forms of psychological disorders - including anxiety reactions, phobias, depression, dissociative and conversion hysteria, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and paranoid reactions. Nature, etiology, and dynamics explored through traditional and phenomenological approaches.
 

Course Objectives:

· to acquire an expanded awareness of the meaning of psychological disorder as that is reflected in everyday life and in professional clinical psychological thought

· to know evolving historical conceptions of disorder, understand the spectrum of disorder, be able to identify and understand the specific features of neurotic style disorders, and apply that to a greater understanding of themselves, other people, and to work within the applied clinical settings of psychology
