Quick-Copy Printing
Black and White Copies
If you need copies in a hurry, then quick-copy duplication is what you want. Publications and Printing has two high-speed Xerox machines: the Docutech Production Publishing System, which prints 135 high-quality copies per minute and has automated collating, stitching and tape-binding features; and the Xerox 6145, which photocopies 100 pages per minute and has limited automated collating and stitching features. (See Finishing and Binding.)
Color Copies
When you need color copies fast, the DocuColor 240 color copier is your answer. Most jobs can be completed within 24 hours. You can create color covers for your black and white documents, transparencies and full color posters up to 12" x 18". Color copies are 50 cents per impression.
Placing Quick-Copy Requests
You can place most quick-copy requests without consulting department personnel. (See Tips.) There are three ways to place requests:
- Publications & Printing office: Copy Request Forms are available at the front counter, and you may pick up pads of these forms to take with you to your office.
- Print or Submit the online Quick-Copy Request Form: You may prepare your request before you bring in the job. (Note: An incomplete form may lead to a delay in processing or incorrect duplication if we cannot locate you for consultation before the job is due for completion.)
- E-Mail: Documents may be submitted for printing by e-mailing the file directly to Publications and Printing at pubprint@westga.edu. The file should be saved as a PDF. This is accomplished by going to the Acrobat Distiller driver under your print options or by going to print options on most new computers and choosing Microsoft Office Document Image Writer. A detailed description of the job and how it is to be printed, along with your contact information and the campus account number the job should be charged to, should be included in the e-mail. Payment is required for all personal jobs when they are picked up. Our staff is available if assistance is needed.
There are several guidelines to consider:
- Envelopes or multiple-part forms (NCR) usually cannot be quick-copied.
- Nothing smaller than an 8.5" by 11" or larger than an 11" by 17" sheet can be run on the black and white copiers. (Smaller items can be run in multiples on a page and then cut down to your size requirements.)
- Turnaround time for a duplicating job is normally 24 hours. Jobs with a large number of originals, and/or copies or jobs that require binding procedures that are not a part of the quick-copy automated system, may take longer.
Test Security
Faculty are asked to sign in exams on the test log and hand them to a staff member to be locked in the test cabinet. After duplicating, tests are again locked in the cabinet until requested. To ensure proper security, it is suggested that you do not send exams through campus mail or leave in the drop box outside Publications and Printing.
Required Information
It is important that the request form is filled out completely, including:
- Total number of copies you will need
- Whether the material is to be collated and/or stitched (stapled)
- Paper to be used
- Account number to be charged
- Name of the person and extension number to be called if there is a question
- Date and time the copies are needed
