Check-Out Frequently Asked Questions

How clean should my apartment be when I move out?

Clean! To review the expectations, please read the Save Your Cash Brochure (.pdf).

What do I do if I lost my key?

If you have lost your key, the staff member that checks you out will note that on your room inventory form when you check out.  You will be billed $150.00 to replace the lost key and change the locks on your apartment.

What if I want to stay after July 31, 2007?

Unfortunately, we do not have space to allow students who are not continuing in Arbor View to stay until their new living arrangements are settled.

What can I use to clean my apartment?

In most cases, you can use any type of All Purpose Cleaner.  For your bathroom and shower area, it is recommended that you use a product such as Clorox 2 or Comet according to our Facilities Department.

I haven’t seen my roommate in a while, what do I do with their belongings if I am the last person to check out?

If you are the last person to check out, you have the extra responsibility to ensure that all materials are removed from the apartment.  However, if you have not seen one of your roommates in a while (and they have materials in the apartment), it will be important for you to notify staff of this as soon as possible so that we can attempt to contact the student.

How do I avoid receiving a bill?

If you are checking out and do not want to receive a bill, please review the Save Your Cash Brochure (.pdf).  This has helpful suggestions that you should follow when checking out of your apartment.

How do I know if I have damages to my apartment?

Damages are defined as any discrepancies with the condition of your apartment/bedroom from the time you checked in to the time you checked out.  All pre-existing damages if any, were listed on the room inventory form you signed when you moved in to your assignment.

What if there are damages to the common area that I did not cause?

Contact a staff member as soon as possible.  We have a form that you and your roommates can complete allowing the individuals responsible to take responsibility for the damages. In situations where a single person cannot be identified, the charges may be divided among all the residents of that apartment.

How do I request my deposit back?

When you come to the desk to officially turn in your key, you can pick up a copy of the Deposit Request form.  You must turn this in with the white copy of your Room Inventory Form to the Residence Life Office in Mandeville Hall.  Please do not leave this form with the staff member. It is your responsibility to turn this form in. Deposits are mailed 6-8 weeks after you check out. The check will be mailed to the address you have on file with the Registrar’s Office.  You may NOT pick up a check or receive cash back.
