HONORS

If you are enrolled in the Honors section of this course (Art 2202-25H), the basic requirements will be the same, but we will take up additional issues for consideration and discussion.  For the Honors components, we will consider how various aspects of the periods and cultures we will examine through evidence in art and architecture are portrayed through other visual means.  We will look at some of the conceptions and misconceptions which arise in popular media, especially film, and we will probe more deeply how art can and should function within society.  Are artists revolutionary or anarchical? Do they owe it to society to create work which is non-offensive? Should they be purposely offensive? Are there moral parameters to their vocation?  Is is a vocation? To what purposes ought artists dedicate their efforts?  How does art function in your life?
