Art 4210 Fall 2008 Exam #3
| For this exam you will again have the choice of writing 2 or
4 essays -- 3 on single works, and one in which you compare and contrast a
pair of works or 2 compare and contrast. Chapters 23, 24, 25,
26, 31
1) Compare and Contrast: select one pair or group within a lettered row in the table; label your essay with the letter in the table and fully identify each of the works, in list form. Then discuss the works in relationship to one another, fully exploring their significance and implications as examples of American work. Consider their roots and/or influence, their use/purpose, meaning, occasion for creation, types, and anything else that may be significant in historical/art historical terms, including other works by the same artist or their training, circumstances, &C. State the rationale for the comparison or grouping. Write a fully developed essay. If you refer to images not included here, cite them by PPT or ill. number. AND 2 A) Write another compare and contrast essay, according to the above directions OR 2 B) Select 3 single images from those in the table below and write a fully developed essay for each. For each work that you select, label your essay with the letter and number, then, first identify the work, in list form, providing the artist, title, date, and location (if architecture). Then fully discuss that work and its significance as an American work in the stylistic group or time frame or cultural category in which we considered it. If you were to take this exam in the classroom, I would provide you 1 full page for the single works, and 2 pages per essay for the compare and contrast pair, so let that be your guide as to length, but make sure you that fully answer the question, regardless of length. Your answers should be drawn only from the material in the PPT videos, in-class videos, your text, and your own thoughtful observation. This NOT a research project. DO NOT go surfing the web for your essay material. You must submit the document through the assignment dropbox.
