7. Delores Moore

The minutes from the last meeting (January 18, 2001) were approved as printed.

OLD BUSINESS

  1. Clois Reese will be sending thank-you letters to TCPA, Dr. Donald Wagner and the Academy students and Jamie at ARA on behalf of the Staff Advisory Council for their contribution/s to the “Brunch for Toys”/”Rudolph To the Rescue” program.  This program provides gifts and donations to the foster children of Carroll County through the Department of Family and Children Services.
  2. Tim North discussed James Hembree presenting a horticulture program at the Staff Advisory Council Conference to be held here at the State University of West Georgia in October of 2002.  The Council discussed the idea that James could include landscaping designs and plants for the office in his presentation.
  3. Alex Young presented the logo for the Staff Advisory Council Conference.  Our favorites were “Through the Millennium and Beyond”, “Pulling together in the Millennium”, and “Coming together to make the university system better.”  Alex will send out an e-mail to all-staff to choose the best logo idea for the conference.
  4. Clois discussed devising a conference committee to work with Continuing Education to make decisions for the Staff Advisory Council Conference in 2002.
  5. Tim, Jill, Delores and Alex volunteered to work on the committee, however, none of the volunteers wanted to chair the committee.
  6. Jill read a thank you letter from the Carroll County Department of Family and Children Services for the “Rudolph To The Rescue” that provided gifts and money for the children.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Celeste Turner asked if the Staff Advisory Council could help find/buy typewriters for the students to use to type forms.  It was suggested that the typewriter(s) could be put in one or more of the computer labs or the Library.  Clois will contact Shirley Barclay at Student Activities to see if they have typewriters in their area for students to use.  Jill will review surplus reports from departments to see if any useable typewriters are being surplused.
  2. On behalf of Debbie McKenzie, Celeste asked if the Staff Advisory Council meeting could be moved to 12:00 Noon.   It was decided that 10:00am might be a better time to have the meeting.  The next Staff Advisory Council meeting will be held on March 15th at 10:00 am in the Arts and Science Conference Room, if available to see if attendance is better.
  3. The Staff Advisory Staff discussed Staff Day T-shirts logos.  Clois will ask if Teresa Ock will help order T-shirts since Frances Miller will be retiring the 1st of April.  Clois will also discuss this idea with Charlotte Kraft in Human Resources.
  4. Clois informed the Staff Advisory Council that the university system wide Staff Advisory Council meeting to be held Friday, February 23 at 10:00am in Macon and asked who would be available to attend.  Tim will check to see if he and his wife would be available to go.  He will e-mail Clois and let her know.  Clois encouraged other council members to attend.
  5. Jill informed the Staff Advisory Council that she had received a response from Diane Shackleford, Public Safety, regarding the council utilizing the buses for the conference in 2002.  Diane will need to know what time of day we would need the buses.  A discussion followed concerning parking, etc.  Suggestions were: the staff from other universities attending the conference could park in Tyus or Z- 6 parking lots.  Public Safety would not ticket these parking lots during the conference.
  6. Jill said that she had contacted Maxine House at the Alumni House to ask if the council could reserve the Alumni House for Thursday, October 3, 2002 to host the Staff Advisory Council Conference welcoming reception.  She will update the council at the next meeting on this issue.  Other welcoming reception venues were discussed.
  7. Jill is working on adding the Staff Advisory Council meeting reminders to the all-staff list serve.
  8. We discussed topic ideas/workshops for the conference.  Other conference sponsors had at least six workshops.
      1. Suggested Workshop Topics
        Retirement Updates
How to deal with Rude People in the Workplace
        Credit Union
        Horticulture
  9. Clois said that Tracy Hester has volunteered to work with the Staff Advisory Council.
  10. We discussed the Relay for Life walk.
