Is Women’s Studies for Women Only?

NO!  We encourage men to enroll in women’s studies courses and consider a minor in women’s studies.

We believe both women and men should consider women’s studies for the following reasons:

Gender as a Relational Concept

Women’s studies views gender as a relational concept, which means that in order to understand the impact of gender on women’s lives, we also must understand its impact on men’s lives.  Many of our women’s studies courses examine the ways that gendered expectations associated with femininity and masculinity shape both women’s and men’s lives.

Men’s Relationships with Women

Men have women in their lives.  Women’s studies can help men understand the issues women face in their everyday lives, which can enhance men’s relationships with women.
