Dr. LaFountain teaches courses on visual sociology, sociology of the body, sociology of emotions, critical and postmodern theory, and phenomenological sociology. He also serves as Program Coordinator for the interdisciplinary Environmental Studies program. His book, This is Not an Essence: Dali and Postmodernism, was published by SUNY Press (1997). He has published across a wide variety of disciplines including sociology, psychology, philosophy, communications, and art and literary criticism. His work has appeared in journals such as Human Studies, Critical Studies in Mass Communication, Humanity & Society, and The Humanistic Psychologist, as well as in chapters in numerous books. Among his current research projects is an investigation of postmodern ethics in Morgan Spurlock’s Super Size Me. He is active in a number of community environmental organizations and projects and recently was certified as a Master Gardener.
