Dr. Sandra Stone received the Meritorious Service Award from the Georgia Sociological Association at their Annual Meeting in November 2004. The award was presented at the Association’s Annual Business Luncheon by the outgoing President, Bob Johnston, from Augusta State University. In his presentation, Dr. Johnston commended Dr. Stone for her 20 year membership in the Association and for her work in the state as an applied sociologist, working effectively both inside and outside of academia. Dr. Stone has served the Association in several different positions, including several years as Secretary-Treasurer, several years on the Sociological Practice Committee, and one year as President-Elect. Dr. Stone was unable to assume the Presidency because of a job change.

Misty Evans, a Sociology graduate student, recently authored an article about the Carroll Tomorrow Teen Preganancy Initiative, whose goal it is to reduce the teenage pregnancy rate in Carroll County by 30% over the next ten years.
