TEXT CALCULUS (6th edition), Anton
You should understand all the concepts and ideas from Chapters 1-7 of Anton's book. We will cover Chapters 8-11. We may also cover additional topics if time permits.
TESTS: There will be exams on Thursday, February 10, Thursday, March 2, and Thursday, April 20. Each will count 100 points towards your final grade.
FINAL: The final is Monday, May 8 at 11:00-1:00. It counts 200 points towards your final grade.
QUIZZES: There will be one quiz every Thursday in class except the weeks when there is a test and this week. You will count the highest scores (out of 12). Each will count 10 points towards your final grade.
HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned each class and collected the following class. Each assignment is worth 2 points. You will lose 1 point for ech day it is late. You may count a maximum of 100 points towards your final grade. In addition, every Thursday in class (except this week) you are to bring a critique of the previous weeks classes. This should be at least one paragraph and no longer than one page. Comment on the previous week's lectures, homework assignments and quizzes and give me some idea how you felt about the difficulty and the amount of time you spent on all of that.
PROJECTS: There will be 4 projects assigned during the semester. Each is worth 25 points. You will be able to work in groups of up to three people on these assignments. I will give you more details when I make the first assignment.
CLASS: You are expected to attend class on a regular basis. Occasionally, in class, you will be given time to work on problems. During these times, you can work with others or by yourself but you must be working on the problems assigned and not work from other classes, homework or talking!! Occasionally, points will be awarded for doing work on the board based on these problems. These points will count towards your homework score. When you are assigned to work in a group, you must be in class during those periods and take part in the group work. If you do not, you will have one homework assignment deducted from your homework score.
CALCULATORS: You are required to have a graphing calculator. I will be using a TI-83, but TI-85 and TI-86 are also acceptable. You cannot have a calculator with a CAS on it such as the TI-89 or TI-92.
GRADES: Your grade will be determined based on the following formula:
TEST 300 points
QUIZZES 100 points
FINAL 200 points
HOMEWORK 100 points
PROJECTS 100 points
TOTAL 800 points

POINTS GRADE
