Stanley Parkman honored with $25,000 donation

Parkman (second from left), editor/publisher emeritus of the Times-Georgian,
will be forever linked to the football stadium at the University of West
Georgia thanks to a tribute by the paper he founded.
Leonard Woolsey (l), Times-Georgian publisher, announced a $25,000 donation to the stadium fundraising campaign to name the media room in Parkman’s honor.
On hand to celebrate the announcement were (right to left) David Parkman, Parkman’s son and chair of the Stadium Development Committee; Dr. Thomas J. Hynes, UWG acting president; and Jim Gill, member of the Stadium Development Committee.
Parkman is a lifetime member and past chairman, 1974-79, of the West Georgia Foundation Board of Trustees, beginning his service in 1972; was named an Honorary Alumnus of UWG; and was awarded the university’s highest honor, the Founder’s Award. His support of the university throughout the years included establishing the UWG Writing Center.
