Greek life encourages involvement in campus activities for the
making of new friends and broadening and development of each member's
potential. Greeks are represented in every facet of university life
and are a driving force in student government, honoraries, and athletics.
They are generally respected by faculty and administrators alike.
Fraternities and sororities build leaders. A majority of the clubs
and organizations on West Georgia's campus are led by Greeks. In
addition, each chapter elects its own officers. As a leader, you
have an opportunity to practice and gain skills that might well
be one of the most valuable experiences of your university career.
With dedication to leadership, it's no wonder that 76% of U.S. Senators
and every President and Vice-President of the United States since
1825, with the exception of two, have been affiliated with Greek
organizations. In addition, a majority of Supreme Court justices
during this century, including the first black justice and the first
woman justice, have been members of Greek organizations as have
80% of the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies.
By joining a sorority or fraternity, individuals are given opportunities
to develop leadership skills that will be advantageous to them in
the future. One way of recognizing those students that have achieved
high levels of involvement and leadership at West Georgia is by
inducting them into the Order of
Omega, a national leadership honor society for members of fraternities
and sororities Order of Omega
recogizes the top 3% of Greek leaders at the university.
