Sunbelt Jazz Festival

Under the direction of Dr. Daniel F. Bakos, the UWG Jazz Ensemble hosts jazz trumpeter Marvin Stamm. Throughout his distinguished career, Stamm has been praised for both the art and craft of trumpet playing. Leonard Feather stated, “Stamm is an accomplished performer whose technical skill is used as a means to original ends.” While attending North Texas State University, Stamm was discovered by Stan Kenton. He performed with Kenton's orchestra as trumpet soloist, recording five albums. Afterwards, he toured worldwide with Woody Herman.

Stamm settled in New York City and gained considerable recognition for his playing with the Thad Jones Jazz Orchestra, the Duke Pearson Big Band and Benny Goodman. After touring for years with Frank Sinatra, he recorded Stammpede in 1982, an album heralding his return to a solo career. Take it from Jazz Review: “It’s a pleasure listening to the work of Marvin Stamm, anytime!
