Atlanta Actor Betty Hart to Direct Dimly Perceived Threats to the System
Betty Hart, popular Atlanta actor and Casting Director for Kaiser Permanente's Educational Theatre, will be coming to UWG to direct Jon Klein's Dimly Perceived Threats to the System , the second show in the UWG Theatre Company's 2004—2005 season . The play, a comedy about the disintegration of the family unit in the 1990's, was one of many selections given to Ms. Hart from which to choose. “It's a difficult script, but I love it!” she exclaimed when emailing her choice.
Betty Hart first came to the attention of the faculty in the theatre program when she came on campus to consult on an extracurricular project, Shakespeare in Black , a few years ago. “I remember that the students really enjoyed working with her and so, when we decided to hire a guest director, her name was top on our list,” said Shelly Elman, Director of Theatre.
“Betty's energy and positive attitude will be great for our students. It's always good for the actors and designers to work with other people,” replied Amy Cuomo, Assistant Professor of Theatre. “She was a real dynamo working with the students during the audition process,” observed Caleb Boyd , Instructor of Theatre. “The students didn't know what to expect and experienced a different type of audition than they've been through in the past.”
Dimly Perceived Threats to the System begins rehearsal October 12. Performances will be November 17—21 in the Black Box Theatre. For more information contact the Theatre Program at 770/836-3520.
