This Webinar offers a behind the scenes view of a well-designed online course. Tune-in for this virtual Brown Bag workshop by Jeannette Campos , an instructor in UMBC's online master's program in Instructional Systems Design.

Using Wimba Classroom from her home in New England, Campos will show how she's using Blackboard, wikis, and screen casting (short, narrated video tutorials) to organize and energize her online class, which routinely ranks in UMBC's top 50 Most Active Blackboard courses.

This presentation will cover a comprehensive plan for statewide professional development that the Idaho Digital Learning Academy is providing to Idaho Educators, and how Wimba Classroom has been an integral part of that plan. The presentation explores aspects of needs assessment, communication process of available resources, training and educating internal and external stakeholders, implementation, and evaluation. Learn how the Idaho Digital Learning Academy has used Wimba Classroom as a tool to open statewide communications to connect various statewide educational organizations and all state educators. Presenter Mike Caldwell has been associated with the Idaho Digital Learning Academy since February, 2003 and had been an educator in Idaho for over 10 years. Mike is the Director of Supervision and Development at the Idaho Digital Learning Academy.

Description:

This presentation will present the results of a landmark study on the impact and use of virtual classrooms.

The University of Southern Mississippi (Southern Miss) chose to implement a virtual classroom due to the increase of fully online courses being offered and the need to accommodate different types of courses through an online medium. Many of the departments that were asked to put courses fully online were concerned about the lack of interaction and student engagement tools available.

Southern Miss began implementation of Wimba Classroom in spring 2007 with a pilot group of 15 faculty across multiple disciplines. The University entered full implementation in summer 2007.
