Thomas J. Strickland Memorial Library Endowment FundApril 25, 2006 CARROLLTON, GA - The Thomas J. Strickland Memorial Library Endowment Fund has been established at the University of West Georgia to honor Strickland who was killed while serving his country in Iraq as a Sergeant in the Georgia Army National Guard.
As a permanent memorial in his honor, the endowment fund was created by Dr. Jane Hill, chair of the UWG Department of English, and Lorene Flanders, director of UWG libraries. The interest from the fund will be used to add one book of literary interest to the Ingram Library's circulating collection each year. The first book donated to the Ingram Library from the Strickland Fund was a new critical biography of Edgar Allan Poe by James Hutchisson (University Press of Mississippi, 2005).
