Emory professor Al-Batal to speak January 17, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - Dr. Mahmoud Al-Batal, associate professor of Middle Eastern studies at Emory University, will speak at the University of West Georgia on Tuesday, Jan. 28. In a presentation titled “Winning the War or the Peace? The U.S. Role in the Middle East,” Al-Batal will discuss the current Iraqi and Arab-Israeli conflicts in the Middle East and explore the role the U.S. can play in solving these conflicts. Al-Batal is the director of Emory College Language Center under the Institute of Comparative and International Studies. He will speak in the Crider Lecture Hall from 7 to 8:30 p.m. His visit is sponsored by the International Student Club. The lecture is free and open to the public.
