Nominations solicited for 2003 Cowart Award January 30, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - The Annual Campus Awards Ceremony is just around the corner, so it’s time to begin thinking about which students at the University of West Georgia deserve to be recognized for their dedication to the betterment of themselves and the University as a whole. In 2000 the Student Government Association at UWG created one such award to recognize the accomplishments of Shea Cowart, a UWG student and a two time gold medalist in the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney, Australia. This outstanding accomplishment gave way to the annual Shea Cowart Spirit of West Georgia Award. This award recognizes a UWG student who has faced an adversity that challenged his or her course of attendance at UWG. The nominated student must display courage, strength and a strong motivation to succeed through any circumstances. According to SGA President Ron Lunk, the award also recognizes an exceptional student who demonstrates a zest for life and represents the University on a local, state, regional and national level with the utmost respect and dignity. Any student, faculty, staff or administrator may nominate a student. To nominate, submit a detailed letter of recommendation outlining all achievements, extenuating circumstances and elements of character that have contributed to the nomination. Nominations are due by Friday, March 14, at 5 p.m. in the Department of Student Activities. For more information concerning the Annual Campus Awards, contact Lunk at 770-836-4530 or Linda Picklesimer, director of student activities, at 770-836-6526. -30- |
