International night spotlights 37 countries

January 16, 2003

CARROLLTON, GA - Would you like to experience the culture of more than 25 countries and only spend $5? On Thursday, Jan. 30, you’ll be able to do just that as the International Student Club at the University of West Georgia hosts International Night.

According to Sylvia Shortt, assistant director of the Student Development Center, last year’s International Night was a huge success. Approximately 700 campus and community members attended the event.

“International Night is a event to help enlighten and entertain the Carroll County community about the different cultures from around the world,” said club president Adebayo Onabule, from Nigeria. “International students at UWG are interested in being ambassadors and helping people understand more about their countries.”

There are currently 109 international students from 37 countries ranging from Bulgaria to Sri Lanka attending UWG this semester. Theses students from all over the world will demonstrate their native dancing, singing, comedy and fashion traditions. There will also be a buffet of tasty meals from each country.

International Night will take place in the Z-6 Food Services Building at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $3 for UWG students with ID and $5 for all others. They can be purchased in advanced from the International Club members, from the Student Development Center, in Room 137 in Parker Hall, or at the door. The event capacity is 700 people, so it is advised to purchase tickets in advance.
