Jenkins to direct doctoral program January 21, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - Dr. Deborah Jenkins, professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, has been selected as Director of the Doctoral Program in School Improvement at the University of West Georgia. There are currently about 50 participants in the doctoral program and the first class of graduates is on track to graduate this December.
According to Dr. Kent Layton, dean of the College of Education at UWG, Jenkins brings to the position a wealth of knowledge and experience from her work at West Georgia as well as at Ohio State University, where she was chair of the Department of Education and an active doctoral instructor, advisor and researcher. In addition, Jenkins is well published and a respected authority in science education having authored or co-authored over 30 articles and grants since 1996. “Since
her arrival, Jenkins has developed a tremendous amount of respect from
Dr. Paul Phillips, director of the program since its start, has decided to return to full-time faculty status in the Department of Counseling and Education Psychology. “Dr. Phillips’ contributions, dedication and direction have been invaluable to the doctoral program, and especially the students and faculty. Clearly, his personal touch and keen direction will be recognized and evident for years to come,” said Layton.
