Six to join foundation

CARROLLTON,
GA - The West Georgia Foundation Board of Trustees has been joined by
six new members. Richard Culpepper, president of Jacoby Development, Inc.;
Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, physician; Loy Howard, president and CEO of Tanner
Health System; William Moye, president of Moye’s Pharmacies; Dr.
Paul Walls, dentist; and Russell Sarner, retired sales manager with Abbott
Laboratories, began three-year terms on Jan. 1.
Culpepper,
a graduate of Columbus College, directs Jacoby Development as the company
develops and owns shopping centers and mixed-use developments along the
eastern seaboard. He serves on the boards of Tanner Medical Foundation,
Successful Christian Living Ministries, Tom Atkins Evangelistic Association,
Jacoby Development, Inc., and is a past member of the board for the Georgia
Tech School of Architecture. He and his wife, Patty, live in Carrollton.
Moye,
a resident of McDonough, has a successful chain of pharmacies serving
five locations in Henry County. A graduate of West Georgia and Mercer
University, Moye serves on numerous boards including the Board of Visitors
for Mercer’s Southern School of Pharmacy, the Governor’s Children
and Youth Coordination Council, trustee for Mercer University, chairperson
for McKesson National Advisory Board, Henry County Medical Center, and
many others.
For
20 years, Walls has run a solo practice of general, cosmetic and implant
dentistry in Carrollton. He served as the 1999 co-chair of UWG’s
A DAY for West Georgia campaign and is a senior member of the Kiwanis
Club of Carrollton. He is secretary of the West Georgia Dental Study Club
and a member of the Georgia Dental Association, American Dental Association,
Northwestern District Dental Society, and is a courtesy staff member of
Tanner Medical Center. Walls is an assistant professor of oral rehabilitation
at the Medical College of Georgia where he earned his doctor of dental
medicine after graduating from West Georgia. Walls, his wife Sheila, and
their two children live in Carrollton.
Sarner
retired in 1985 from Abbott Laboratories after 39 years as southeastern
region sales manager. He has served on the boards of Greystone Power Foundation,
Inc. and Carroll County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). He was
founder of CASA in both Carroll County and Georgia, and was also a founder
for Friendship Force for west Georgia and international. He has been active
at the local, state and international levels of the Kiwanis Club. Currently,
he is on the Citizen’s Panel Review for the Juvenile Court of Carroll
County. Sarner served in the U.S. Navy prior to his career with Abbott
Laboratories. He and his wife, Mary, live in Villa Rica.
As
president/CEO of Tanner Health System, Howard oversees three hospitals
with 1,800 employees and an approximate gross revenue of $280 million.
Educated at the University of South Carolina and the University of West
Florida, Howard is the recipient of the 2002 Horizon Award from the Carroll
County Chamber of Commerce and the 2000 Visionary Award from the Follow
Me Foundation.
Howard
chairs the Carroll Tomorrow initiative and will serve as the 2003 chair
for the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Health
West Physicians Hospital Organization and Sertoma, and serves on the board
for Tanner Medical Foundation, West Central Technical College Foundation,
Carroll County Health Department, Oak Mountain Academy, CB&T Bank,
and New Hope Children’s Village.
Fitzgerald,
a gynecologist in Carrollton, is president of the Georgia OB/GYN Society.
She has served on the Georgia State School Board, Board of Trustees for
the Advanced Academy of Georgia, board of Georgia Public Policy Foundation,
military selection board for the late Senator Paul Coverdell, the Carroll
County Task Force for Teen Pregnancy, and the boards for Goodwill and
SERVE. A graduate of Georgia State University and Emory University, Fitzgerald
also served her country as a major in the U.S. Air Force. She and her
husband, Tom, have two children.
