Math workshop

CARROLLTON, GA - The Department of Mathematics at the University of West Georgia (UWG) will sponsor a “Workshop on Inverse Problems” on Feb. 13-14. This workshop is intended for researchers and graduate students working on inverse problems and their applications.

The two-day workshop consists of three mini series of lectures delivered by experts in the area and includes the latest trends, updates and methods. Each speaker will deliver three one-hour lectures; no other contributions are planned.

The speakers are David Colton from the University of Delaware, The Inverse Scattering Problem; Victor Isakov from Wichita State University, Carleman Estimates and their Applications to Inverse Problems and Control Theory; and Zuhair Nashed from the University of Central Florida, Regularization Methods for Nonlinear Inverse Problems and Variational Inequalities.

The first session is set for Friday, Feb. 13, from 2 - 5 p.m. The second session is Saturday, Feb. 14, from 9 a.m. – noon and the final session is the same day from 2 - 5 p.m.

There is no registration fee. Due to the restricted number of seats, participants should register by January 31 by e-mailing one of the organizers, Dr. Amin Boumenir at boumenir@westga.edu or Dr. Vu Kim Tuan at vu@westga.edu. The organizers have no funding to support the attendance of participants.

The conference will be held on the campus of the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, approximately 50 miles west of Atlanta. Those coming by air should fly to Atlanta, directions and maps of the campus can be found at http://www.westga.edu/maps/. Attendees should book accommodation directly with hotels.
