Fundraisers begin for Children's Miracle Network January 24, 2005 CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia Miracle Marathon committee will host a fundraiser at Bruster’s on Jan. 27 from 6-9 pm. A percentage of all the proceeds will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network and Children’s Hospital of Atlanta. The Miracle Marathon, set for March 12, is a 12-hour fundraiser that includes games, dancing, food and entertainment. Participants are required to secure funds in advance by finding sponsors. All the money they raise will remain local to benefit children within their own community. The Marathon began at West Georgia in 2002 with students raising $11,500. Last year, students raised more than $23,000 and almost $3,000 came just from a silent auction. This year’s auction will be Feb. 8 in the University Community Center (UCC). Items to be auctioned off include antiques, furniture, gift certificates and tickets to events in Atlanta. Children’s Miracle Network – the alliance of premier hospitals for children – is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids by raising funds for 170 children’s hospitals across North America. Each year these non-profit hospitals provide the finest care, research and community outreach to help millions of children with diseases and injuries of every kind. Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, Children’s Miracle Network has grown dramatically since its founding in 1983, from a televised fund raiser in a small studio to one of the world’s leading children’s charities working to save and improve the lives of millions of children each year. The 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals are there 24 hours a day to help kids of every age and background overcome every imaginable disease and injury – from asthma and broken bones to cancer, sickle cell anemia, pediatric AIDS, muscular dystrophy and serious injuries. The UWG Marathon committee has also organized a golf tournament for March 5 at Fairfield. The cost is $50 per participant.
