International Night January 25, 2005 CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia is making it possible to tour the world in just one night. On Thursday, Jan. 27, UWG will be hosting International Night, where 30 countries will present their culture and customs to the rest of the world. This event will be held in the Food Services Building on campus. Mouths will water at the chance to eat kukumas from Sri Lanka, or chow down on mousaka from Greece. At 6:45 p.m. each country will have the opportunity to present a special dish, buffet style, that best represents their country. During this time, students will display exhibits of information about their cultures as guests sample their international cuisine. At 7:45 p.m. sounds of singing, tapping feet, drumming and cheer will be heard as each country entertains the masses with dances, skits, songs, and “The Ultimate Fashion Show,” where each culture will show off their latest fashion garbs. “We are going through a time when the world is in a division, both politically and socially,” said Lanre Jimoh, president of the International Student Club. “With this celebration we are trying to make everyone feel united despite disagreement, so that we can come together to reach a common goal.” Tickets may be purchased in advance from an international student, or in the Student Development Center located in Parker Hall, from Sylvia Shortt, International Student Advisor. Tickets may also be purchased at the door the night of the event. Tickets are $3 for students with West Georgia I.D. and $5 for non-students.
