Janaury 31, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - David Parkman, executive director of special projects at the University of West Georgia, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Georgia Educational Advancement Council (GEAC). Parkman is one of seven recipients honored by GEAC at its recent annual conference at St. Simons Island. GEAC presents the award to recognize outstanding service and achievement in the field of educational advancement by individuals and institutions in Georgia.

UWG News Photo“With so many deserving and inspiring examples of excellence among our members, it was incredibly difficult to determine the best of 2004,” said Ann Mahefkey, assistant vice president of institutional advancement at Brenau University, who chaired the selection committee.

This year, the presidents of all public, private and technical schools in the state were asked to nominate their best and brightest for the awards, which are traditionally presented in the areas of alumni relations, development, public relations, communications and overall institutional relations.

“This year, for the first time, the Awards Committee felt it necessary to add just one more award – one for Lifetime Achievement,” said Mahefkey. “David Parkman holds the distinction of being one of the longest serving employees in the history of his University – 40 years, with 35 of those being in the field of advancement. He has been a mentor to many. His passionate insistence on accuracy to convey the truth to the public has earned the respect of his colleagues.”

“There is no aspect of our campus that doesn’t bear some mark of his,” said Dr. Tara Singer, UWG’s vice president for University advancement.

GEAC is a statewide organization for its approximately 700 members at public and private colleges and universities who work in educational advancement. For more information on GEAC, visit the website at www.uga.edu/geac.
