EXCEL Center Director recognized January 24, 2005 CARROLLTON, GA - Cheryl Rice, director of the EXCEL Center at the University of West Georgia, was named as a recipient of the Outstanding First-Year Student Advocate Award by the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition.
Rice has served as the director of the EXCEL Center since 1996. Although she has been nominated before, this is the first year she has received the award. Rice will be formally recognized on Feb. 6 at a conference in Phoenix, Ariz. “Although the award was presented to me personally, I will accept it on behalf of the entire EXCEL Center staff and the University for supporting the academic success of students,” said Rice. The EXCEL Center provides free tutoring in all core classes, peer mentoring, study skills training and career exploration.
