Geology students & faculty present research February 7, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - Several University of West Georgia geology students and faculty will be presenting research at the joint meeting of the South-Central and Southeastern Sections of the Geological Society of America. The
meeting will be held March 12-14 at the University of Memphis Conference
Center in Tennessee. Approximately 600 geoscientist are expected to attend. “Watersheds in Transition From Rural to Developed: The Tributary Streams of the Chattahoochee River in Carroll County, Georgia” and “The Chattahoochee River Below Metro Atlanta: The Role of Urban Runoff, Sewage Discharge, and Chicken Manure on the Water Quality of the Chattahoochee River” by undergraduate students Chris M. Jackson from Dallas, and Dr. Curtis Hollabaugh, professor and chair of the Department of Geosciences. “Variation in Water Quality Standards in the Southeast and South Central United States” and “Wet/Dry Sampling During Watershed Assessment: A Study in the Piedmont of Georgia to Determine What is Dry and Wet” by Randa Harris, undergraduate student from Bowdon, and Hollabaugh. “Nutrient Variations in Surface Waters of West Georgia: How Land Usage, Water Withdrawals, Point and Nonpoint sources Affect Water Quality” by Heather Bailey, undergraduate student from Senoia, and Hollabaugh. “Fecal and Sediment Problems That Occur in Watersheds of Differing Degrees of Disturbance in the Piedmont of Georgia” by Josh Prince, undergraduate student from Newnan, and Hollabaugh. “Digital Mapping Assistant: A Palm Application for Digital Collection of Geologic Date Using a PDA and a GPS Receiver” by Dr. Randy Kath, associate professor of geology.
