Tournament to benefit Justus

February 6, 2003

CARROLLTON, GA - The West Georgia Braves football team will sponsor a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Feb. 18 and 20 to benefit University of West Georgia student Kristy Justus, who was injured playing flag football in the fall.

The tournament will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 5 p.m. in the Health and Physical Education Building. Championship games will be held following the 5:30 p.m. Braves women’s basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 20, also in the HPE Building. Admission into each day’s events is $1.

Justus was involved in a freak accident that left her a quadriplegic while going up for a pass during a flag football game on campus last November. She has been undergoing treatment at Shepard Spinal Clinic. All proceeds from the tournament will go to the Justus family to help with expenses incurred as a result of the accident.

Trophies will be awarded to the top three men’s and women’s division teams, and individuals on the winning team will also receive trophies.

Students, faculty or staff interested in playing can register at the Intramurals Office, located in the old Auditorium gym, through Friday, Feb. 14. There is a registration fee of $5 per person.

For more information concerning the 3-on-3 basketball tournament, contact the Intramurals Office at 770-836-6617.
