Faculty rewarded for online courses

CARROLLTON,
GA - Nine faculty members at the University of West Georgia have
been awarded laptop computers recently for their outstanding online course
proposals. Funding for the computers was provided by the Board of Regents
of the University System Georgia to foster faculty development in online
technology.
Dr. Thomas Hynes (standing, left), vice president for academic affairs, was on hand to congratulate the winners. Winners included (standing, l-r) Dr. Amin Boumenir, assistant professor of mathematics; Dr. Richard Sanders, assistant professor of geology; Dr. Peter E. Morgan, associate professor of english; Carrie McWhorter, instructor in English; (Seated, l-r) Darlene Jones-Owens, temporary instructor in instructional technology; Dr. Michael Hirlinger, professor of political science and director of MPA program; Dr. Muhammad Rahman, assistant professor of computer science; Dr. Lisa Gezon, associate professor of anthropology; and (not pictured) Dr. Sharmistha Basu-Dutt, assistant professor of chemistry.
To be considered for the award, each faculty member developed and submitted a proposal for an online course using WebCT and such other programs as Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Authorware. A committee of six faculty members selected the winners, who will be assigned use of the laptops for as long as they are employed at West Georgia.
