Academy hosts Stanley lecture February 5, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - The Advanced Academy of Georgia at the University of West Georgia will host a lecture for the University and the Carrollton community with Dr. Julian Stanley, Professor of Psychology Emeritus and director for the study of mathematically precocious youth at John Hopkins University. Stanley will talk about being young, intellectually talented and attending the Advanced Academy of Georgia on Friday, Feb. 21, in the lower level of the Food Service Building at 7:30 p.m. The Advanced Academy is housed on the campus of the University of West Georgia and is a residential, early-entrance-to-college program for gifted, talented and motivated high school juniors and seniors who wish to accelerate their academic studies. Stanley has been instrumental in designing programs for the academically gifted all over the United States, including the Center for Talented Youth at John Hopkins University, the Duke Talent Identification Program, the Texas Academy of Math and Science and the Advanced Academy. One of Georgia’s first gifted students, Stanley graduated from West Georgia in 1936 at the age of 18. In 1972, he introduced a talent search to identify, challenge and reward academically able youth.
