State to offer UWG specialty plates February 25, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - When Georgia residents receive new license plates in 2004, students, alumni, faculty/staff and friends of the University of West Georgia can proudly display a new commemorative UWG plate. The specialty license plate will be available next year if at least 500 applications for the UWG design are made before July 31 of this year. The design features the University's red flame overprinted with the letters “UWG” in blue type with a white shadow to the left of the tag numbers. Across the bottom center of the tag, where the county name is normally displayed, “West Georgia” is printed in red type with a blue shadow. Dr. Beheruz Sethna, UWG president, anticipates a great response to this initiative to promote the University. “The UWG tag will give the University visibility everywhere the owners go,” Sethna pointed out. “This is an excellent means of showing support and displaying pride in having a relationship with this great institution!” All applications for the new tag, which include a $25 fee, should be submitted to the UWG Alumni House, Carrollton, GA 30118 by July 4. The University will then submit them to the Department of Motor Vehicles by the July 31 deadline. Applications are available on the University’s web site at www.tag.westga.edu. While the commemorative tag will need renewal each year at a cost of $25, it is only the first year that will determine whether UWG will be allowed to have its own tag. If someone wants to revert to a non-personalized tag in the future, UWG will still be allowed to keep its tag as long as the 500 minimum are ordered this year.
