Music department sponsors Wind Symphony

CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia Department of Music will sponsor the UWG Wind Symphony Concert on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 8:15 p.m. in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts.

The Wind Symphony, which is conducted by Dr. Scott McBride, chair of the Music Department, consists of about 40 music students who play a variety of wind instruments.

Works to be performed include “A Festival Prelude” by Alfred Reed, a setting of Bach’s “Komm, Süsser Tod (Come, Sweet Death),” the “Country Dance” from Cajun Folk Songs II by Frank Ticheli, the “First Suite in E-flat for Military Band” by “Planets” composer Gustav Holst, and a galop by Arthur Bird. “Semper Fidelis” by John Phillip Sousa will be conducted by band graduate assistant and former Marine Band member Steven Day.
