Celebration of Graduate Research February 24, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia will showcase select research and creative endeavors by its graduate students in its first Celebration of Graduate Student Research on Thursday, March 4. The event will consist of 20-minute research presentations by students who were enrolled in a UWG graduate program in 2003. Participants will be selected in a competition judged by faculty, and research submissions not chosen for presentation will be exhibited at the event beginning at 5 p.m.. In addition to research from theses, dissertations and other papers and projects, presentations will include such creative works as musical or art projects due at least in part to acquisition of knowledge as a UWG graduate student. According to Dr. Jack Jenkins, dean of the Graduate School, the new Celebration of Graduate Research was inspired by the successful Big Night event, an annual program focusing on undergraduate research. “The graduate school has given a Graduate Student Research Award for outstanding graduate student research for the past three years,” said Jenkins. “Dr. Sandra Stone, associate vice president for academic affairs, thought that a celebration of graduate research similar to the Big Night for undergraduate students was a great idea.” Jenkins noted, “We have excellent graduate programs, graduate faculty and graduate students at the University of West Georgia. Please come out and support us.” The event will take place at 7 p.m. in the Kathy Cashen Recital Hall in the Humanities Building and is expected to last about two hours. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. For more information, contact the Graduate School at 770-836-6419. -30- |
