Day of HOPE

February 17, 2004

CARROLLTON, GA - The EXCEL Center at the University of West Georgia will sponsor the second annual “Day of HOPE” on Tuesday, Feb. 24. This is a day to celebrate HOPE scholars and all of the hard work they put into maintaining their scholarship. Two thirds of all HOPE Scholars lose their scholarship for failing to maintain a 3.0 grade point average.

On the Day of HOPE, HOPE scholars will receive discounts from participating local businesses and restaurants. HOPE scholars will also be the special guests at the Braves basketball game vs Alabama-Huntsville at 7:30 p.m. Some of the participating businesses and restaurants donated gift certificates and merchandise which will be given away during a special prize drawing at half time of the men’s basketball game.

The EXCEL Center is a resource center for all students on campus. Its services include free tutoring in all core classes offered at UWG, academic advising for undeclared students and certain pre-majors, academic probation counseling, mentoring programs for HOPE scholars, first year students and the Multicultural Achievement Program. Helping students make a University connection and successfully acclimating to college life is a top priority for the EXCEL Center.

The HOPE scholarship has enabled many Georgia students to attend college. Making a successful transition from high school to college is challenging. The EXCEL Center’s mission is to help HOPE Scholars and all college students make a successful transition by providing the necessary resources. The EXCEL Center recognizes the hard work of all HOPE Scholars and encourages all others to pursue excellence.
