Grad student to appear on Spymaster TV Show

February 24, 2004

CARROLLTON, GA - Have you ever dreamed of becoming a spy? Tim Petty, a graduate student at the University of West Georgia, got to fulfill this fantasy by participating on The Learning Channel’s upcoming series Spymaster.

UWG News PhotoPetty learned about the show through an advertisement on the TLC website, and entered to become a participant.

“My number one reason for wanting to be on the show was to jumpstart my acting career,” said Petty. “I needed to participate in an experience that would give me the self-confidence to do so.”

Out of the 10,000 who entered, Petty was one of 12 finalists selected to be contestants on Spymaster. Petty, who went into the Air Force Academy straight out of high school, was the only final participant with military training.

“I already had experience through my Air Force training for many of the stunts and physical activities that we had to do,” Petty explained.

Although limited to what he could say about Spymaster due to secrecy contracts, Petty revealed that the show involves such things as combat fighting, fast cars and firearms, and is comparable to any training that one could get from an actual spy school.

For anyone who wants to become a star on a reality show, Petty has some advice. “Send your pictures and biography off and don’t dwell on it. If I can be on a show like this, anyone can,” he said.

The first episode of TLC’s Spymaster airs March 30 at 10 p.m. For more information, contact Petty at 770-235-1724.
