How I Learned to Drive performances set

February 15, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - The West Georgia Theatre Company will perform the 1998 Pulitzer Prize winning play How I Learned to Drive from Wednesday, Feb. 23, through Saturday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. The show will end with a final performance on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 2:30 p.m. All performances will be in the Black Box Theatre of the Townsend Center for Performing Arts.

The play, written by Paula Vogel, portrays the life of Lil’ Bit, a young Southern girl and her dysfunctional family. Lil’ Bit finds great strength and even greater conflict with her relationship to her uncle. With wit and warmth, the play takes the audience through the pains and passions of adolescence and adulthood. As Variety wrote, “Vogel addresses the dangerous intersections of teenage temptation. The play is a potent and convincing comment on a taboo subject, and its impact sneaks up on its audience.”

The cast includes Marnesha Dukes, senior theatre major from Atlanta; Justin Horn, senior theatre major from Lawrenceville; Larry Hendrix, sophomore theatre major from Carrollton; Shelly Roberts, sophomore theatre major from Fresno, CA; and Lisa Russey, senior mass communications major from Douglasville.
