D'Vine Gospel Trio

February 7, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - The joyful noise is d’lovely, delightful and delicious. But for two sisters and a friend, it’s been just plain D’Vine.

UWG News PhotoDisplaying a repertoire of a cappella and songs with musical accompaniment, this Atlanta-based gospel trio has been privileged to perform their art in front of millions across the United States, Europe and South America.

The D’Vine voices will ring out in praise and majesty, Saturday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m., at the University of West Georgia’s Townsend Center for the Performing Arts, said director Robert Jennings. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, $5 for students and $3 for children.

“D’Vine is becoming a big name group throughout the Southeast,” Jennings pointed out. “They have been featured at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Gospel Explosion and in Gospel Industry Today magazine. Gospel music is a fast growing format in the entertainment industry and they are on the cutting edge.”

The trio will join the long-standing UWG United Voices Gospel Choir (UVGC) in a workshop for the campus ministry. The UVGC will join D’Vine for the first two numbers of the concert, “Come Together,” from D’Vine’s latest CD, Two Sisters And A Friend, and a “City Called Heaven,” Jennings explained.

“The workshop is to prepare the UVGC to open with D’Vine,” Jennings noted. “To have a campus choir get to sing with professional artists is quite a coup. This really will be an uplifting and wonderful concert for the entire family to attend.”

UVGC members say it’s a great opportunity for Carrollton and the west Georgia community to come together.

“We are honored to sing with D’Vine during their concert,” said Remika Smith, president of the UVGC. “There are several great choirs and ensembles here that could have accompanied them and we find it a privilege to be able to sing with a group that has achieved so much.”

For 13 years, Sheryl Denise Pollard, Pamela McGuire Deas and Paula McGuire Sounders have been bringing their soulful and joyful Gospel sounds to millions.

The trio left their mark on a major world event — the 1996 Olympic Games — when they sang during the Opening Ceremonies as part of the Centennial Olympic Choir. They also recorded numerous radio and television commercials for worldwide media representatives.

The women of D’Vine have delivered music presentations for corporations, celebrities and community-based organizations in addition to touring schools, colleges, and churches. They have also inspired thousands by performing at Atlanta Braves, Falcons and Hawks games.

Grammy and Dove Award-nominated producer and composer Oliver Wells has produced D’Vine. Wells has worked with such well-known artists as Larnelle Harris, Sandi Patti, Whitney Houston, Babbie Mason, the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and Earth, Wind and Fire.

Performances and presentations are customized according to the audience and are adaptable for all age groups and cultures. D’Vine has performed for small, intimate settings and venues that seat thousands. Their television appearances have reached millions.

D’Vine’s latest CD, Two Sisters and a Friend, is an a cappella project produced by gospel music artist and producer Babbie Mason. The groups first CD, Simply D’Vine, was released in 1996 to rave reviews and the group’s second effort, Perfect Timing was released in 1999. In support of these CDs, D’Vine performs about 150 shows to standing-room-only crowds each year.

Performances draw mostly from an array of gospel songs and also include spirituals, patriotic, motivational and children’s songs. Spiritual songs include “Amazing Grace,” “If I Can Help Somebody,” and “Old Landmark.”

Patriotic renderings incorporate selections like “The National Anthem,” “Lift Every Voice And Sing” and “Let There be Peace on Earth.” Motivational songs include “Your Attitude,” “Get On Up” and “Reap What You Sow.” Songs for a younger audience include, “If You’re Happy And You Know It,” “NaNa’s House” and “I Got A Robe.”

D’Vine has performed for former President Bill Clinton at the 53rd Presidential Inauguration, at Madison Square Garden in New York, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the national Black Arts Festival, the Gospel Choice Awards and at the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta. D’Vine has garnered national and international recognition for their efforts.

After a performance at the Georgia Governor’s Mansion, where Gov. Sonny Perdue entertained Atlanta’s diplomatic and international business community, Gwen Kemmerick, director for international marketing services for the Georgia Department of Industry, said “the selections were perfect for the occasion and we were especially delighted for the newcomers who had not previously had the opportunity to enjoy your talents.”

D’Vine will be a treat that whole family will enjoy.
